Solomon's Garden
To create space for the growth that is central to the mission of iLOGIC, we will spend the coming years developing models of sustainable, multi-generational community building. Solomon's Garden is a five acre plot of land nestled deep in the woods of rural Alabama.
We have an ongoing list of Legacy Projects designed to teach and learn sustainable models of food production, natural-build housing, community collaboration and prosperity-building.

DESCRIPTION
Participants in the Homestead Incubation Program will engage in biweekly online classes with a variety of facilitators. You will be partnered with members of your cohort for group study and task accountability.
There will be 2 one-week immersion experiences at Solomon's Garden in West Alabama to gain practical skills in the areas of tool training, land reading, foraging and building. The first retreat will allow participants to build relationships with one another, the land and facilitators while providing context for course work and discussion. At the conclusion of the training, participants will gather again for completion of succession plans, homestead planning presentations and a graduation ceremony.

DESCRIPTION
Free February is all about creating an inclusive space on the homestead to offer training and retreat space at an accessible price and time-frame.
We could use some help knocking out our projects to prepare for the Spring season. This Work-Trade Retreat gives us an opportunity to share our skills and knowledge while offering time and space for rest and relaxation.
The facilitator is Tannur Ali - our Residential Land Steward. Participants will assist with current projects on the homestead including seed starting, carpentry projects, lumber mill pick-ups and so much more.
Lodging is discounted for all of February from $75/night to $10/night!

We have completed the first About This Life cohort training and it was a resounding success! The Participants experienced record low temperatures during their first week on the land. As a group, we came together to determine the best ways to thrive in below zero temperatures using wood stoves, canvas tents and the semi-outdoor kitchen and restrooms! By the time the group departed, we returned to Alabama expectations and sat by the fire in tee shirts in the 71 degree sun.
We learned so much with our first cohort in the About This Life Training that we have decided to offer trainings quarterly instead of bi-monthly as we anticipated. The full two weeks that we experienced in December helped to clarify the value of that amount of time for the training.
. Each training will include the basics of daily homestead life along with seasonally appropriate tasks and projects to ensure that you get the most out of your time here at Solomon's Garden.
This 2-week on-site training will include the creation of long-term temporary home sites on raw land. Cohort members will simulate arrival on a raw land site where there is no home yet. They will learn to identify an appropriate site and prepare it as a long term base of operations. In doing so, participants will engage in safety demonstrations, manual land clearing, plant and tree identification, material sourcing, waste management, building a storage shelter with roof, tool safety, use and maintenance, land planning, home site planning and budgeting and sustainable-efficient daily living practices and keys to the mental/emotional transition to the land. This base will include:

All iLOGIC on-site trainings include 2 mandatory online orientations prior to on-site training.
We seek to train new, beginning and aspiring Black Land Stewards in order to turn the tide against Black land loss in the United States. This training is designed as an affinity group to ensure that the specific concerns regarding sustainable use, development and succession planning for Black-owned land can be addressed in a safe space.
