Zakiyyah Ali

From Beijing to the Bronx, Sister Zakiyyah has traveled the world to teach, learn and grow. To build connections and develop an understanding of the human ecology that will regenerate the Earth's ecology, Zakiyyah carries a Master's in Human Services along with Certification in Production Manufacturing. Her broad skill set gives credence to the connections between all parts of life. With a focus on systems design and intelligent consumption, she merges worlds between the relationships we build and the world we build with them.

Her life long love is horticulture and plant science, which she explores through innovative gardening techniques, creative design and textile arts.  With over 40 years of life as a vegetarian and a chef, her ability to take a few bowls of grains, beans and fresh produce and turn it into a feast is impeccable.

She facilitates programs about the life and studies of her hero, George Washington Carver - exploring the ways that each of us can become a scientist, researching the behavior of our interests.

Her workshop series have included:

Emergency Preparedness

Paper Making

Leadership for Entrepreneurs

Vegetarian Life

Vegan Life

Food Combinations

Gardening

History of Racism

And so much more.

The Program

Urban Islanders is an emerging organization that provides otherwise isolated peoples, or "Urban Islanders," with a research and resource exchange platform that will empower them to create meaningful change.  Initiated in 2017, the program connects residents of urban areas with resources, tools and network connections to those individuals and organizations which match their interests.

A city girl in the concrete jungle can find herself growing a garden and exploring horticulture techniques. A Techie in the suburbs might find himself creating web pages for wilderness buffs... The possibilities are endless and that's the point.
